Surge In Handgun Carry Licenses In Lead Up to Midterm Elections
Nearly 10,000 applications for concealed carry permits have been requested in the crime-ridden city of Chicago since concealed carry became legal in Illinois this month, and more applications are pouring in each week.

Alan Gottlieb, Chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms  andFounder of the Second Amendment Foundation views this as part of a national trend as the midterm elections approach this coming November, less than a year from now. Gottliebnotes, “Now that it is legal, there are more people applying for handgun carry licenses in Obama's home state of Illinois than for Obamacare. That should tell you what is likely to happen in the 2014 midterm elections.”

Indeed, since 2009 when President Barack Obama took office, 13,984,953 citizens have requested background checks; a 91% increase over the first term of the Bush Administration.

Idaho State Journal Today conducted a poll which shows over 80 percent of respondents in the Gem State support the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2014which was introduced in Congress by Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX).  Cornyn’s concealed carry act—which is cosponsored by U.S. Sens. Thune (R-SD), Vitter (R-LA), Graham (R-SC), Boozman (R-AR), Inhofe (R-OK), Crapo (R-ID), Burr (R-NC), Cochran (R-MS), Johanns (R-NE), Enzi (R-WY), Moran (R-KS), Roberts (R-KS), and Portman (R-OH)—would allow individuals with concealed carry permits in their home states to exercise those same rights in other state that also have concealed carry laws.

A Congressional vote this year on concealed carry would smoke out congressmen and the president, forcing them to take a stand on an issue that has proven to be immensely popular with Americans, especially in big cities. The debate over concealed carry will no doubt be enhanced by the support of the millions of law-abiding Americans who are licensed and the many millions more who hope to obtain a license.

Indeed, the right to own guns crosses party and ideological lines, as the state which has the highest number of gun owners per capita is liberal Vermont. The political debate over concealed carry stands to be brought into focus by the inevitable drop in violent crime in cities once they begin permitting.
