Pro-Gun Billboards Drive Liberals Nuts
Alan Gottlieb, Chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and Founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, is praising the billboards being purchased by Slide Fire Solutions, a Texas based manufacturer of firearms accessories.
One such billboard, seen from a highway in southwest Chicago, features a baseball glove, an apple pie, an AR-15, an American flag, a fish commonly used as a symbol of Christianity, the Statue of Liberty and a logo for the Second Amendment reading "2A".
Liberal New York Times columnist Joe Nocera absurdly responded to the Chicago billboard in an op-ed which noted that Chicago has the highest rate of gun violence in the nation. “No kidding,” notes Alan Gottlieb, who pointed out the obvious by noting that Chicago also has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. Perhaps the billboard might serve to wake up law-abiding Chicagoans who might not even be aware of the benefits of defending themselves from the increase in violence with a firearm.
Nocera ended his op-ed diatribe by listing 40 different examples of purported gun violence since the start of 2014. How many of these acts of violence were carried out by lawful gun owners, and whether these acts of violence occurred in gun restricted areas, goes unexamined by Nocera.
The same billboard went up near Harrisburg, PA, where Pennsylvania State Representative Patty Kim (D- Harrisburg) responded by declaring, “Guns to us in Harrisburg means death…When we see a gun, a handgun, it's painful because so many of us have fallen at the hands of illegal guns. We need to do something. We can't make it something flippantly like it's part of America. It's not.”
Gottlieb again noted the obvious; the billboard did not picture anillegal handgun. Gottlieb advocates strict law enforcement as a means of getting criminals with illegal handguns off the streets. Indeed, the presence of legal guns has proven to be a natural deterent to violent crimes.
In an interview with a local Pennsylvania television station, Slide Fire Solutions Chief Executive Manager Laura Shackelford defended thebillboard's message, stating, “Our Second Amendment rights are 'All-American' and we have a First Amendment right to speak about them.”
