End Operation Choke Point

Alan Gottlieb, Chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms supports a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee report that calls for the  Justice Department to "disavow and dismantle" Operation Choke Point. This program allows several federal agencies to arbitrarily demand information from banks about the financial transactions of private citizens. Gottlieb says that these actions, without due proceess, constitute illegal fishing expeditions and represent a gross over-step of government into the private affairs of individuals and businesses.

Banks find the regulations so onerous that it is easier for them to simply shut down the accounts and  loans to the targeted person or organization than to comply with the government. Among the targeted individuals and organizations are manufacturers, distributors, and dealers of firearms and ammunition

"In light of the Department's obligation to act within the bounds of the law, and its avowed commitment not to 'discourage or inhibit' the lawful conduct of honest merchants, it is necessary to disavow and dismantle Operation Choke Point,” the report said.
Operation Choke Point was launched in 2013. The congressional committee report includes evidence the program was "created by the Justice Department to 'choke out' companies the Administration considers a 'high risk' or otherwise objectionable, despite the fact that they are legal businesses."
This is another example of the Obama regime going after people and businesses that it doesn't like notes Gottlieb who says that the proper venue for going after fraud involves the presentation of specific evidence as opposed to a blanket indictment of an entire industry.
The report said "Operation Choke Point has forced banks to terminate relationships with a wide variety of entirely lawful and legitimate merchants," and that the Department of Justice "is aware of these impacts, and has dismissed them."
In a pattern that has become virtually routine, the Obama Administration is refusing to comply with requests for documents regarding Operation Choke Point from Committee Chairman Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA).
This sort of arbitrary collective action by the government, the targeting of entire industries by the government, contains echoes of actions by Vladimir Lenin and the the Soviet Checka. Lenin would routinely order the Checka, his secret police, to target for persecution entire categories of those whom he considered as "enemies of the state."
