Report equates concealed carry permits with drop in crime
Arguments made by Alan Gottlieb, Chairman of the  Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and founder of the Second Amendment Foundation  regarding a correlation between an increase in the number of concealed carry permits and a decrease in crime rates have once gain been vindicated by a new report issued by the Crime Prevention Research Center.
The report reveals that 11.1 million Americans now carry concealed weapons, up from 4.5 million in 2007. The 146% increase coincides with a 22-percent decrease in both murder and violent crime rates.
The report reveals that Florida has the highest number of citizens holding concealed carry permits with Texas a close second.
According to the Crime Prevention Research Center, from 2007 to early estimates for 2013 murder rates have dropped from 5.6 to 4.4 per 100,000.
These findings are backed by a 2007 Harvard University Study entitled "Would Banning Firearms Reduce Murder and Suicide?" which compares the murder rate in Europe with the United States concluding that "the mantra that more guns mean more deaths and that fewer guns, therefore, mean fewer deaths" is wrong.
The Harvard study compared gun ownership in Russia, which stands at about 4,000 per 100,000 people and where the murder rate was 20.52 per 100,000 in 2002 to Finland, where gun ownership was 39,000 per 100,000, the murder rate was a low 1.98 per 100,000.
Data from a 2013 report by the Federal Bureau of Investigation concluded that restricting semi-automatic rifles following the  Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was misguided.
A champion of Second Amendment rights, Alan Gottlieb concludes that if the government wants to reduce murder rates and keep Americans safer they should encourage gun ownership by responsible law abiding citizens. Gottlieb notes that the gun restrictions advocated by the well-funded gun grabbing groups play into the hands of criminals who continue to get guns while they are restricted to those who are law-abiding.
